Electronic Counter Measures

ECM Tests / Standard Procedures

The following tests form part of the standard procedures for ECM surveys and would be conducted as applicable in the designated rooms and offices.

Test Conducted:

Examination and verification of active radio signals in the area.
Radio Frequency Spectrum Interrogation

Equipment: Tec-Tronic Radio Frequency Spectrum Analyser

This involves a comprehensive analysis of the electromagnetic radio spectrum in each of the executive offices and the conference rooms. The spectrum analyser has a specialized interface unit which displays and detects all active global and local radio transmissions signals received within the local and immediate areas of the survey; for example, mobile telephones and stations, mobile pagers, television signals, satellite navigation stations. All these active global signals can be eliminated, thus highlighting any local suspect and/or unknown frequencies which are then targeted, identified and interrogated.

Test Conducted: Non-Linear Junction Detection

Equipment: Non-Linear Junction Detector (NLD or Broom)

This piece of equipment conducts an electronic examination of all walls, furniture and ornaments to detect the presence of any eavesdropping devices, whether operational or not.

Test Conducted: Telephone Integrity Test - Cable Examination

Exhaustive tests of the telephones in all areas would be conducted. These would consist of an internal and external examination, in conjunction with electronic testing of associated cabling and ancillary equipment.

Test Conducted: Physical Inspection - Cable Examination

A physical inspection would be carried out in all of the nominated offices/conference rooms. It would include all interior surfaces, ceiling voids, ventilation ducts, furnishings, wall units, decorations and electrical fixtures, all electrical power sockets mains standard and uninterrupted power, also the cable runs in the rooms/offices nominated would be subject to examination for illicit devices.

Test Conducted: Alarm System / CCTV System Inspection

A visual examination of the Alarm systems and CCTV Systems would be undertaken.

A visual examination of each CCTV monitor/camera would be conducted to establish the quality of the picture and that no over-modulation exists on any of the monitors, thus indicating third party interference with the system. This procedure is normal when conducting a counter measures survey.
